Babywearing goblin adventures

Goblins love to travel. So does our Lil’ Goblin. Even though he doesn’t know it yet. At a very young age he has been to a few museums, events, short treks, on a bus, travelled on a train and was in aquarium. He slept most of the time. How did we do it?

Babywearing start

Moms were wearing their little babies all over the world for centuries. How hard could it be? Our first steps were clumsy and scared. Since none of our friends used slings, wraps or carriers for their offspring, we had to go online for tips.

Mom, stop taking selfies and play with me! Now!

But first….shopping

Since there is not much choice localy, our equipment came from faraway lands. We are happy owners of CuddleBug baby wrap , also available from German Amazon cuddlebug(Amazon DE)
.

It is a wrap, made from blend of spandex and cotton. While it is confly, practical and can be easly washed when puked on, it is sadly much to hot in the summer. This one became our favourite again when weather changed.

How goblins learned to babywear?

Luckily there are tons of babywearing tutorials online. After some practice with pillows and once our cat (he didn’t like it) we tried it on Lil Goblin. He was very cooperative and loved being close to his mama. But getting him in the right position and keeping him there proved to be a challenge for novice baby wearers. We visited one off the events with babywearing advisor from Die Trageschule Slovenija and learned a lot.

Babywearing in Slovenia can get you evil looks from random ladies

While in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia you can meet happy babies in usually Boba wraps or carriers, a bit out of the city babywearing can get you evil looks from local grandmothers. While I was trying to drink my lemonade in a very popular cafe in Kranj, waitress stormed to the table and started screaming in panic I should stop torturing poor baby. Lil Goblin was happily sleeping wrapped in his Cuddlebug wrap on my still very comfortable soft belly and ignored the noise. Waitress was not harmed in the incident.

Wraps are hot in the summer

Wraps are nice and warm and baby gets extra body heat from his mother. Which is great during cold winter. Not so much in August. We had to get another one. Onya Outback is a soft structured carrier for active people. It is not as hot in the summer and has a few pockets and designated hooks for baby necessities. We also used it in light rain. Not on purpose, it happened. It really is water proof. For our little one we had to buy extra infant insert.

We chose the manliest possible colour, so it looks rugged enough for Sys Goblin to use it in public. There was no way to get him into cute stripy Cuddle bag wrap thingy.
Our came from EloBaby shop in Milano, you can also get one from Amazon USA.

Now they have even lighter, thiner model Onya Baby Pure. We would love to test that one in the summer.

How long will we carry our baby?

Lil Goblin is getting heavier and heavier every day. For now, we all love carrying him around and he loves to be close to us. Even after heavy usage, our carrier looks like new. We will see how long we all like it.
